Do you work after hours?

Silver Computer Consultants is available by appointment on the weekends and after regular business hours.

The SCC monthly service includes emergency service.

Do you have a trip charge for onsite service?

Trips outside of ten (10) of Mitchellville, MD will be charge a $25 trip charge.

Do you repair laptops?

Software – yes.

Hardware – it depends. We can advise you on your best options.

What types of computer systems do you support?

Our staff has extensive knowledge in many areas computer systems. We specialize in the Microsoft Windows system, from single workstations to multiple server environments.

What is your typical response time?

When our clients call we answer! Many problems can be solved immediately over the phone via the remote support we offer. We can connect directly into your computer from our offices and fix many problems you may be having.

Typically our technicians can service a client’s computer issue within 12 hours of their call – and most problems are resolved within 24-48 hours.

We also provide full time systems monitoring for quick, 24-hour access to your systems (by your discretion, of course).

Will I be able to transfer files from one computer to another in my network?

Yes. By using the built-in functions of Windows or Mac OS, you will be able to share files between computers connected to your network.

Can I share my incoming internet connection with other computers on my network?

Yes. Connecting your incoming internet connection up to a home router, you will be able to access the internet from any computer that is on the network.

Can I share my printer with more than one computer?

Yes. This can be accomplished many different ways. You can share the printer from within windows, purchase a network compatible printer, or purchase a router with a print server.

Is a wireless network safe?

Yes, but the network and the computers that are on the network have to be configured correctly for it to be safe. On the wireless station, WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) can be used to encrypt the signal that is being sent and received. On the network computers, passwords and permissions should be setup.

Can you troubleshoot an existing small network?

Yes. We can troubleshoot most home and small business networks even if we did not originally install it.

What equipment do I need?

To answer this questions correctly, we first would need to know what you would like to do on your network. After that, we can put together a list of equipment you will need. Most small networks will just need some sort of a switch or a router, some network cable, and a couple of network cards.

I am not sure if my company does any sort of backup and I’m worried about our files. Can you help?

Definitely. Every company should have a solid backup plan in place to ensure that your critical files are intact in case of a catastrophic event. You never know when a hard disk failure, virus, accident erasure, or any other multitude of events could render your files unreadable. We offer a variety of options and will work with you to decide what is ideal for your specific needs – from a simple backup drive to complete, off-site backup.

Can you save my files on a dead hard drive?

Often we can. If not, we will advise you of the best options.

How can I improve the wireless signal?

Change or add hardware.

Do I have to bring my computer in to you?

No. We make it easy for you and come to your business or home office. At your location we install, upgrade, diagnose, and troubleshoot your computers and network.

Also… Many issues can be in the environment that you are using the computer in. This cannot be detected if you brought your computer system to us.

Can you help me with my Mac?

We can solve some Mac problems but mostly we service and repair both PC’s.

What should I do with old computers and monitors?
